Now we agree with a lot of what was said in this link about yoga. We’ve been trying our best to practice more of the poses, looking at various posts we find online. We are discovering it is hard to keep track of the movements when we can’t see the screen well enough from the position we are in.
Aha, most yoga studios have mirrors in them for that very purpose. Although I do agree that isn’t where most of us are looking, we are trying to follow the instructor to the best of our ability. We think there is tremendous value in doing many of our yoga stretches at home in the safety and security of our own space until we get the basics down a bit.
Or take a long some really supportive friends that won’t laugh their heads off or criticize us any more than we are already doing to ourselves for the unusual ways we are trying to twist ourselves.
Yes, we hear it when they are calling out especially at our age. Really though the older we get the more we do need to stay limber and be able to still move our bodies from head to toe and side to side. We often forget how much our necks like to be stretched even if we don’t sit at a desk all day. Driving puts tremendous stress on our neck and shoulders.
Yoga has so many positive benefits, now we never stayed with it long enough to become masters at it, though we’ve been told it’s never too late. Our bodies are not in that limber enough state yet to fully agree with that. We need to work out all the movements much better than we have been and be much more consistent than we have been.
For us that is the number one reason why we do show up at a class every once in a while, if we don’t pretty soon, before you know it, we’ve missed a whole week of yoga stretching until our body is screaming at us. Oops, sorry beautiful wanna be body. Scheduling one class a week, or month, or something will keep us on track with that.
Most of all this interesting link about yoga practice in a studio inspired us to get busy taking better care of ourselves. May you too get up and move and find an easy to do daily way to help your body begin and end each day with as many relaxed muscles and state of mind as possible.
There is something to the message of “just do it”, as I sit here stretching my neck. We say we are multitasking that way, to a degree, yes. What I am finding out best is how important it has become to notice our bodies enough to take care of them in a healthy way.
As I write more pictures and related posts pop up with an ever-growing array of yoga choices. Now, that in itself gets my mind quite excited.
“Oh boy, look at all these new ways of learning and doing yoga.”
Learning about it, not enough, there it is again, the reminder to start doing. So, in the need of a well deserved break, I stop now from reading and writing the ideas down, to actually trying some of the stretches once again so that they become second nature and not a kick in the pants reminder.
